I also thought tonight's class went well. It often seemed like we veered away from the questions that were asked by some of the teachers, but I think we were always discussing and debating over very revalent and important issues concerning race, civil rights and change. See you all on Wednesday!

I am so sorry I couldn't be there, but it is great to hear that the opening night went well.

I really enjoyed the discussion last evening and appreciate everyone's willingness to participate. I am eager to get into a deeper discussion of these issues within the context of the books. Again, please post any questions you have regarding the readings, particularly how they connect with one another and the issues we addressed last night.

I have been thinking about our debate last night about the current status of racism in America, and whether we have collectively improved as a nation in how we view the other races. It reminded me of a news report I saw. This is a simple study done by a high school student, a recreation of the study whose results formed the basis of the Brown v. Board decision. It is worth a view and I am interested in reading your reactions. Here is the link:

I think this experiment goes back to what Elliot was saying last night about how racism is learned from our surroundings and this shows that it starts at such a young age.

Anyways, like Maryilyn, I also think the discussion went really well last night. I am looking forward to see how it goes once we start talking about the textbook and the novel.
